A Small Step: Homecoming Anxiety

Week 14: Homecoming Anxiety

ActionInner Child

The most powerful thing you can have when going home is: an exit strategy.

Not because you'll definitely use it. But because knowing you can leave changes everything.

Create your Songkran survival plan:

1. Transportation Independence

  • Drive yourself if possible
  • Know bus/train schedules
  • Have rideshare apps ready and funded
  • Have a friend on standby for emergency pickup

2. Time Limits

  • Decide in advance how long you'll stay
  • Don't leave it open-ended ("I'll stay as long as needed")
  • It's okay to stay one day instead of three
  • You can leave early if you need to

3. Escape Phrases

  • "I have to take this call"
  • "I need to step outside for air"
  • "I'm going to check on something"
  • "I'll be right back" (then take a mental health break)

4. Safe Zone

  • Identify a room or spot where you can retreat
  • A bathroom break is always valid
  • The car is a private space
  • A short walk "to get snacks" = breathing room

Your assignment:

Before going home, write down your exit plan. It's not dramatic—it's smart. It's you taking care of yourself.

When you need grounding exercises on-the-go, Calm Loop Toolkit fits in your pocket.
