Understanding: Meeting Little You

Week 15: Meeting Little You

InsightInner Child

Inside you, right now, is a child.

Not metaphorically—neurologically. The part of your brain that formed in childhood is still there, still active, still holding memories and wounds and needs that were never fully met.

When did you last acknowledge that child?

Who is your inner child?

Your inner child is the part of you that:

  • Carries old wounds from childhood
  • Still needs things your parents couldn't give
  • Feels deeply and reacts quickly
  • Holds creativity, wonder, and play
  • Needs reassurance when afraid
  • Wants to be seen, heard, and loved

This child doesn't grow up just because your body does. They live inside you, waiting—often unconsciously running your reactions.

Why inner child work matters:

Many of our adult struggles trace back to childhood wounds:

  • Abandonment becomes fear of rejection
  • Criticism becomes perfectionism
  • Neglect becomes difficulty accepting love
  • Chaos becomes anxiety

Healing the inner child means going back to give them what they needed—from you, now, as the adult you've become.

When your inner child needs gentle guidance, Grief Compass Journal helps you connect.
