Rest Day: The Cost of Being Nice
A new month begins today. January is behind you. February stretches ahead.
And today, here is your only assignment: be nice to one person—yourself.
Just for today, your needs come first.
What does this look like?
It might mean canceling something you don't want to do—without guilt.
It might mean not answering that text right away.
It might mean choosing what you want for dinner. What you want to watch. Where you want your attention to go.
For people pleasers, this feels radical. Self-care often triggers guilt: "I should be helping someone. I should be available. What if they need me?"
Here's the truth: you cannot pour from an empty cup. And if you spend your life filling everyone else's cups while yours runs dry, you will eventually have nothing left for anyone—including yourself.
Your permission slip:
Today you are allowed to:
- Put your phone on silent
- Cancel a plan without lying about why
- Say "I need time alone"
- Do something purely because YOU want to
- Rest without earning it first
This isn't selfish. This is maintenance.
Welcome to February. Be gentle with yourself.
When being nice to yourself feels forbidden, Inner Spark Recovery can help you give yourself permission.
