A Small Step: Imposter Syndrome Check

Imposter syndrome tells you a story: "Your achievements aren't real. You got lucky. You're not that good."

Counter it with evidence.

Create your Evidence File:

This is a document (physical or digital) containing PROOF of your competence.

Include:

  • Accomplishments: Degrees, certifications, promotions, completed projects
  • Praise: Screenshots of kind emails, thank-you notes, positive reviews
  • Challenges overcome: Hard things you've done that prove resilience
  • Skills: What you know how to do that not everyone can
  • Impact: Times you helped someone or made a difference

How to use it:

When imposter feelings strike, pull out the file. Read it. Remember: these are facts, not feelings.

Your brain might try to dismiss each item. "That doesn't count." "Anyone could do that." Notice this dismissal—it's the imposter talking. Push through. Read the evidence.

Your assignment:

Today, start your Evidence File. Just 5-10 items. Keep adding to it over time.

When doubt comes, you'll be armed with truth.
