The Myth of: Certificate of Survival
There's a myth that "just surviving" isn't enough:
"You should be thriving, not just surviving."
"If you're only getting by, you need to do more."
"Survival mode isn't acceptable long-term."
But sometimes... surviving IS the accomplishment.
When survival is victory:
In times of:
- Grief and loss
- Chronic illness
- Mental health crises
- Major life transitions
- Global or personal chaos
...thriving isn't the goal. Surviving is.
Getting out of bed is an achievement.
Making it through the day is a win.
Being alive tomorrow is the entire project.
Permission to just survive (when that's what's needed):
Not every season of life is for growth. Some seasons are for endurance.
If all you did this year was survive? That's enough. That's actually remarkable.
Reframe:
Instead of: "I'm just surviving—I should be doing more."
Try: "I'm surviving. In this season, that's the whole goal. I'm doing it perfectly."
Grief Compass Journal holds space for all seasons.
