A Small Step: The Art of Doing Nothing

Today's action seems absurd: schedule nothing.

Literally. Put "NOTHING" in your calendar.

Why schedule nothing:

If it's not scheduled, it won't happen. Other things will fill the space.

Nothing needs protection. It needs a boundary. It needs you to treat it as seriously as a meeting.

The nothing appointment:

Duration: 10-15 minutes (start small)

When: Any time you'd usually reach for your phone

Where: A comfortable spot with minimal stimulation

What: Nothing. Not meditating, not thinking, not planning. Just existing.

Rules:

  • No phone (in another room)
  • No reading
  • No music
  • No falling asleep (that's sleep, not nothing)
  • Just sit and be

What to "do":

  • Look out a window
  • Notice sounds without analyzing
  • Feel your breath without controlling it
  • Let thoughts pass like clouds
  • Exist without purpose

Your action:

Put "NOTHING - 10 min" in tomorrow's calendar. Protect it. Show up to it. Do nothing perfectly.
