Understanding: Sleep Sanctuary
Your bedroom should feel like a sanctuary. A cave. A womb.
Does it?
What a sleep sanctuary looks like:
- Dark: True darkness—blackout curtains, no LED lights
- Cool: Temperature around 65-68°F (18-20°C)
- Quiet: Minimal noise, or consistent white noise
- Clean: Uncluttered, calming, minimal stimulation
- Technology-free: No screens, phones in another room
- Comfortable: Quality bedding, supportive mattress
- Single-purpose: Only for sleep (and intimacy)
Your cave shouldn't double as an office, gym, or entertainment center.
Why environment matters:
Your brain creates associations. When your bedroom is for everything—work, TV, scrolling—your brain doesn't know it's time for sleep.
When your bedroom is ONLY for sleep, entering it triggers the sleep response.
A bedroom audit:
Tonight, look around your bedroom with fresh eyes.
- Is it dark enough?
- Is it cool enough?
- Is it quiet enough?
- Is it cluttered?
- Are there screens?
Each "wrong" answer is an opportunity.
