Understanding: Forgiveness is Freedom
Forgiveness is the most misunderstood path to freedom.
It's not about them. It's about you.
What forgiveness is NOT:
- Saying what they did was okay
- Letting them off the hook
- Forgetting what happened
- Trusting them again
- Reconciling the relationship
- Excusing their behavior
Forgiveness is none of these.
What forgiveness IS:
Releasing YOUR grip on the resentment.
Stop holding the anger that poisons YOU.
Stop replaying the hurt that tortures YOU.
Stop waiting for an apology that may never come.
Forgiveness is putting down the weapon you've been using to hurt yourself.
The prison metaphor:
Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.
You're the one suffering. They may not even know or care about your resentment. You're in prison; they're walking free.
Forgiveness is your key out—not theirs.
