A Small Step: The September Rush

Here's a survival rule for September rush: the 5-5-5 rule.

The 5-5-5 Rule:

Every 5 hours: One proper break (20-30 min away from desk, ideally outside)

Every 5 days: One full day of rest (not just less work—actual rest)

Every 5 weeks: Evaluate if pace is sustainable (and adjust if not)

Why this works:

The 5-5-5 creates forced pauses in an otherwise continuous grind:

  • Short-term recovery (daily breaks)
  • Medium-term recovery (weekly rest)
  • Long-term assessment (monthly check-in)

Without structure, busy periods extend indefinitely. With structure, you maintain boundaries.

Your action:

Schedule into your calendar:

  • A 25-minute break for today (not lunch—additional)
  • One full rest day this week
  • A 30-minute "pace review" five weeks from now

Treat these as non-negotiable. They're preventive medicine against burnout.

Inner Spark Recovery incorporates the 5-5-5 rhythm.
