Understanding: The Anti-To-Do List

You have a To-Do list. It's infinite.

But do you have an Anti-To-Do list?

What is an Anti-To-Do List?

It's a deliberate list of things you will NOT do today, this week, or ever again.

It's focus by elimination.

Why you need one:

Productivity isn't just about doing more efficiently. It's about ignoring the right things.

If you don't decide what not to do, the world will decide for you. You'll say yes to "quick calls," volunteer for "small favors," and drown in low-value tasks.

Examples for your list:

  • I will NOT check email before 10am
  • I will NOT say "yes" immediately to requests
  • I will NOT finish books I hate
  • I will NOT attend meetings without agendas
  • I will NOT apologizes for taking time to respond

The practice:

This week, for every item you add to your To-Do list, add one to your Anti-To-Do list.

Define your boundaries as clearly as your goals.
