Some things need to be said, even if no one else will ever hear them.
Today's practice: write a letter you'll never send.
The unsent letter practice:
This could be a letter to:
- Someone who died, saying what you never got to say
- A relationship that ended, releasing what you're still holding
- A version of yourself from the past or future
- A dream that didn't happen
- A loss you don't have words for yet
Write as if the recipient will understand perfectly. Don't censor. Don't organize. Just let the words flow from your heart to the page.
Guidelines:
- Find a quiet place
- Give yourself at least 15 minutes
- Write by hand if possible (connects more directly to emotion)
- Start with: "Dear [name/thing]..."
- When you're done, decide what to do with it:
- Keep it
- Burn it (ceremonially releasing the words)
- Bury it
- Simply set it aside
The letter isn't about communication. It's about release. Your heart has been carrying words that need somewhere to go.
Give them somewhere.
