What Your Body Knows: Meeting Little You

Week 15: Meeting Little You

BodyInner Child

Your inner child doesn't just live in your memories. They live in your body.

When you're triggered—when something brings up old feelings—your body responds as if you're that age again.

Can you feel them right now?

Where the inner child shows up in the body:

  • **Chest tightening** when you feel unseen
  • **Throat closing** when you can't speak your truth
  • **Stomach dropping** when criticized
  • **Feeling small** around authority figures
  • **Curling inward** when scared
  • **The urge to hide** when exposed

These are somatic signatures of your inner child. They're not you being dramatic—they're childhood states living in adult bodies.

Try this inner child body practice:

1. Place a hand on your heart and one on your belly

2. Close your eyes and take three slow breaths

3. Ask silently: "Where is my inner child right now?"

4. Scan your body—notice where you feel young, vulnerable, small

5. Send warmth and gentleness to that spot

6. Say inwardly: "I see you. I'm here. You're safe now."

This isn't magic. It's presence. And sometimes presence is what your inner child needed all along.

When your body holds childhood pain, Grief Compass Journal helps you reconnect with tenderness.
